When I was all but a toddler, I had my first encounter with a handsome dog and I instantly fell in love. He was a Spitz mixed breed who lived in the house across the street. His name was Snowy, and since he was technically older than me, I used to call him Snowy “dada” out of reverence. “Dada”, in Bengali is how we address our elder brother.

I adored Snowy, but there was a problem. He didn’t live with us, and no matter how young I was, it was bad manners to barge into someone’s house early in the morning and stay there all day because you have a gut feeling that their dog is your sibling.

So I cribbed and cribbed to my mother to get us a dog. The problem was, she is scared of them. So all my childhood, I was subject to the “Stand first in class in your exams, and we will get you a dog” diversion. Of course, I achieved that milestone a few times, but immediately after, my mom seemed to have developed temporary bouts of amnesia.

Well, it’s been a while since them, and I am pushing 30. I sort of have my way now that there are 4 dogs and 4 puppies in the household. My mother has all but given up on me, although she bursts out now and then with a “What have you done to my house?!!” monologue… but more or less, she seems to have come to terms with the dogs.

All in all, it has been a traumatic experience for me as a child and now for my mother as a senior mom. I wish it was different… especially when I see these life-like stuffed animals that are available for families like us right now. The cute sleeping cats and dogs look incredibly realistic with their life-like breathing motion, and they come with their own collars, feeding bowls, carriers etc. You even get birth certificates with each of them. Kind of like the real deal, but minus the tension, the vet’s bills, the poop cleaning, and pet walking bit.

If you are wondering whether I am plugging in an affiliate deal with this post, well sort of, but this product does have all the merits that I have written about. It DOES solve a practical problem. More than one actually.

Each sale has a part of the proceedings going to an animal shelter on behalf of the seller. On my behalf, the entire amount I get for the sale goes to Paws Awhile, and in taking care of these little puppies that no one seems interested in adopting.

Do check the product out if you can relate to my story. There is a flat 25% discount on every sale up until the 31st of January.
