@wildcatsthree - I know how tough it is to lose a pet who is a part of your life. As a rehabilitator, I have seen countless animals die for no fault of their own. It hurts every time. I have an idea of what you must be going through. I just wish there were more people who understood!

We adopted our Rosie from a rescue group last July. Prior to that, I had no real knowledge of the chihuahua breed and never realized what a special little dog they are - your article is quite accurate - very feisty for such a little dog. My Rosie unfortunately was abused prior to being rescued, and she has issues that we're working on. I am disgusted by people who have dogs just as showpieces; I agree that a purse is no place for any dog, no matter if they do fit into one. Rosie loves to run, go for walks, and bask in the sun- she likes all the things any larger dog likes to do. Thanks for bringing this to everyone's attention.
And also, thanks for your kind comments on our blog about the passing of our boy Fritzy on Saturday. We are so touched by everyone's kindness during this sad time for our family.
Chris

Monique,

I can well imagine how you feel about your dogs. It is disturbing to know that some people will only opt for Chihuahuas because small is fashionable. They are unknowingly encouraging irresponsible breeders to breed unhealthy dogs.
