I was visiting Houndsgood where I found an article on the controversial Chip in widget. As you can see, this widget is a neat way to let people know that you are raising money for a cause, that you have set a target, and how close (or far) you are from reaching there.

My first thought on seeing it was: “This is what we need!” We have been desperately trying to raise money for the dogs under our care. Some of them require immediate treatment. Unfortunately, donors have been hard to come by.

We had put up a “Sponsor an INDog” Paypal button on the sidebar for a few days, but then decided to take it down. The Paypal button has been misused and abused so many times, that it is wrong for us to even expect anyone to give it a second look on our blog.

The Chip in widget would have been a nice substitute. I believe that if you got to see the target and the progress in real time, it would have been easier for you to convince yourself to donate. Unfortunately, this widget is meant only for US citizens. So much for hope.

In the meantime, we still need the fund. One of the dogs have a tumor on her pelvis that has now grown to the size of a tennis ball. She requires surgery. The others need a round of vaccination for distemper. We had been funding these exercises in-house for the last several years, but with the rise in the number of dogs, we need a bit of help.

I am considering approaching some of the communities that this blog is a member of. Many of them have thousands of members, and if everyone donates just a dollar, that would help us get a healthy start on our vaccination and other veterinarian activities.

What do you think? If I asked you today, would you donate a dollar for these INDogs?
